FFXIII: How to defeat Odin

So I got my version of FFXIII yesterday and that's what I've been doing instead of working on my layout. This game is addictive~

Since a lot of people are having a hard time beating Odin, I thought I should share how I did it. I checked a few websites but none of the solution proposed worked. I bet people who wrote these grinded like crazy... Which I didn't feel like doing. I tried around 20 times, with different combinations and this one is the one that worked for me.

First, get rid of all your other Paradigms: in this battle you need to switch quickly and you have no time to double check them. Here are the Paradigms I used, in this order:

Dual Casting
  • Lightning: Ravager
  • Hope: Ravager
Yin Yang
  • Lightning: Medic
  • Hope: Ravager
Double Dose
  • Lightning: Medic
  • Hope: Medic
As soon as the battle starts, use auto attack. You don’t have time to be picky about your spells. After 2 rounds, switch to Yin Yang and heal yourself and Hope. I noticed that Odin likes to beat the shit out of Hope so make sure you keep an eye on him: I had to use a Pheonix Down once to bring him back. From there, just keep attacking and healing as much as possible and you’ll see the gauge filling itself  quickly. When the count reaches 300, start pressing X (I play on Xbox, leave me alone) while keeping up with the attacks and the heals.
And voila! You defeated Odin~

  15. Thank you! I was almost at the point of giving up on this game last night! And you're right, most FAQs for JRPGs tend to assume you're grinding so that every single accessory and weapon is maxed out, which drives me crazy!

Man, a cute French girl from Quebec who is into JRPGs. As a 30-year-old Ottawa man, I have to ask you if you have any older sisters. :)

  16. Yeah... the day after I wrote this post, I bought the strategy guide and what they recommend in it is quite similar to what I did! =D

Haha unfortunately, I only have brothers... who are hardcore gamers too =P

  17. I want to say thank you so much. Your blog post was very helpfull in kicking his big metal butt. I died alot even after finding your post. I found that the double dose and dual casting was the best for me. Thank you again.

  20. Hey there, I finally got a chance to try it tonight. The only thing I wound up not doing was using "Double Dose", and also instead having Lightning on Ravager and Hope on Medic in the 2nd Paradigm. The only bad side to this was having to use a lot of Potions, however I had about 60 of them. I just felt it was quicker for me this way, personally.

Nevertheless, your technique worked flawlessly. I am just not fast enough yet to switch Paradigms. I'll get better at it.

Now, I can finally get over that bridge.

"Keep Hope Alive" is what all should think when taking on this beast. Keep him alive at all costs.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, also another reason I made Lightning Ravager and Hope Medic was because I didn't focus too many Chrysarium points into Lightning's Medic role. I should now, though.

I definitely realize I need to get faster at switching Paradigms, that or change the battle speed, but easier is boring.

Thank you so very much again for helping me get over this part. I can finally play again. I had to take a few days off and play "Heavy Rain".

  22. Glad to hear that!

Yeah, I recommed to put more points in Lightning's Medic: it'll come very handy later on in the game (I'm at chapter ten right now, almost 30 hours into the game~) especially for Barthandelus !!

  23. your method worked wonderfully. thanks for posting

  24. thanx foe this was a big help

    ReplyDelete
  25. what if u dont have the yin and yang paradigm?

    ReplyDelete
  26. You just create it.Go to the paradigms meny and you select customize and either use a blank one or modify another one.

In FF13, you can create gazillions of paradigms...

  27. Oh my god, thank you so much for this! I just defeated Odin in 1min 4 sec and I didn't even have to use a Phoenix Down. I only used the first 2 Paradigms though, and I used Fortisol and Aegisol before crossing the bridge (I saw that on a different blog).

  28. You are Awesome! I beat Odin in like 15 seconds thanks to you! Thanks again and yes... This game is very addictive......... I'm playing this game as we speak and it's 1:56 am in the morning, it's even distracted me a little from my TAFE studies.

    ReplyDelete
  29. thanks for the advice... for defeating odin...another little tip for defeating him is to use a fortisol before u head over the bridge so that u have haste cast on light abd hope as well just to speed things up a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes! But I recommend you save your fortisol for Bathandelus... you'll need them for this one!

    ReplyDelete
  31. heheh I slowed down a bit since my sping break is over! Have fun gaming ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. took less than 2 min, merci mon ami

    ReplyDelete
  33. thank you so much. I had thought I was too low level to beat him but with your help I did. Its amazing the damage difference between different paradigms on different bosses. I had thought lightning didn't have good magic power. But it didn't matter since magic does like three times as much damage to odin.

  34. Thank you very much, I appreciate your constructive comment :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. aaww I love you too! *hug*

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think she's cute ;P

  37. odin = so easy. lightning as medic, hope as ravager.

    ReplyDelete
  38. you are a legend! thank you :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. exactly what I explained above... except with more details ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Indeed. It took me yonks to get that battle done and it was rather irritating. I found it was really easy once I did what you said ;)
call me a noob if ya want but somehow it got easy once I did that :)

  41. Thank you so much! You have no idea how many times I tried. I finally gave up and went on the internet for help. I tried a bunch of things, but only what you said worked. You're the best!

    ReplyDelete
  42. nah you're not a n00b~ only n00bs give up !!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow What a relieve! i tried different things but this one is the best i did it in one battle and i got 5 stars and i had to revive hope 4 times but i did it with your help thanks
